Mesh Facade

Company: Icon/Banker Wire (2015)

Software: Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor

When my company partnered with a wire mesh manufacturer, it provided an opportunity to engineer a mounting solution for use as an architectural facade.  I wanted a robust, versatile design that could be used for a variety of applications and easily installed in the field.  This was a fun project that allowed me to design everything from the ground up.  When creating the model, I learned to use the pre-loaded hardware package to accurately and easily include hardware such as fasteners.

Once I worked out a solution, it needed to be modeled to demonstrate the system and a set of drawings needed to be drafted for production of a test rig.

I took advantage of both Inventor and AutoCAD for different aspects of the project.  The 3D inventor model was intended to visualize the aesthetic.  The AutoCAD shop drawings were used for actual production and created with consideration of specific mounting conditions.  The system was installed outside of the production facility to test the design.  As usual, it was great to see a design being fabricated and brought to fruition in real life.
