I thought up this chess set as a companion piece to the Folding Chess Board, these pieces required careful engineering to allow each piece to telescope out to thier full size, and collapse back down into a more manageable disk.

The biggest challenge of this project was designing a mechanism to allow the pieces to extend/collapse smoothly and consistently while being 3D- printable.  After I nailed the mechanics, I carved out the features of each piece one at a time.  From the simple Pawn to the elaborate crown of the King, I am very proud of how they turned out.
